North Idaho Reads is a joint project involving libraries throughout North Idaho designed to encourage regional residents to read a single book — or books based on a theme — each year and to develop programs for all ages related to the book or theme. When possible, the author is invited to come to North Idaho for programs.
North Idaho Reads also encourages involvement by regional book clubs, schools, businesses, arts and culture venues, and individuals in order to reach and encourage readers of all ages to be involved with the project each year.
The selection of books and themes is by a committee made up of representatives from each of the participating libraries. Each library in turn develops programs appropriate for their facilities and the community they serve. For more information on what is available in your area, contact your local library. An overall listing or programs will be posted at this website.
Our Mission Statement: Through the magic of words, North Idaho Reads will engage our communities and foster an understanding of the common threads that unite us.
For 2016 North Idaho Reads is supported in part by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council, a state-based program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additional support is provided by the Friends of the Library representing participating libraries and from community sponsors.
